Why are we here? What is the purpose of our being on this planet?

When on December 23, 1968, the Apollo 8 astronauts took the first color photo of our "Spaceship Earth" (as Bucky Fuller often called it), there was a worlwide shift in humanity's self awareness and the environmental movement was spawned with the first Earth Day in April 1970.

This is a test of our new T.I.A.P.L. Blog to make sure it is working.

To answer the question "Why are we here?" I think we first have to take stock of where we are now and what are the likely consequences if we continue behaving in the same way:

1) more wars and killing, often, in the name of religion;
2) more environemental destruction--glaciers melting/sea level rising, permafost melting and releasing even more methane, acidifying of the ocean, shrinking wildlife habitat and fragmenting of ecosystems, pumping more CO2 into our thin atmosphere;

On the positive side of the ledger we see:
1) globalization of all aspects of our lives with worldwide communication via satellites and the internet together with more efficient transportation by land, sea and air,
2) huge leaps in the computing power of our technology being applied to all aspects of our lives;
3) a groundswell of interest in all the above by students and researchers all over the world with increasingly global concern;
4) breakthroughs in our images of our place in the cosmos via the Hubbell Telescope and its latest incarnation "Gaia" looking further into the cosmos than ever before;

We are sure you can think of many more topics to add......

Wednesday (October 8, 2014) I was getting stamps at the Ojai Post Office and a woman in a bee suite was ahead of me at the counter shipping a package of Queen Bees, together with the "helper" bees in the same vented shipping box--I saw a lot of movement--I asked if she knew about "Bee Colony Collapse Disorder" and she said she sure did , "it has cost me thousands of dollars in lost bees" and she was having all her bee colonies shipped back into Ojai for the winter in special trucks that have to keep moving to have air flow through the bee containers so they can "fly in the air current" instead of piling up and suffocating. The PO Teller asked her what caused it and she said "round-up dependent gmo crops, pesticides, and too much stress" or words to that effect. I chimed in "yeah, nicotinimide based pesticides.'

If we destroy our bees we destroy ourselves as well since they are essential to pollinating food crops.

I believe the reason "Why we are here".......is to experience and sense the creation of the Multi-verse as "co-creators".......and that we are NOW experiencing a truly expanded and enhanced awareness, as is all of Nature. Wishing the very best in this endeavor and adventure! Cheers! :-)
